Review of Pontypool (2009) by Brian A — 24 Oct 2012
Pontypool had the potential to be a excellent little thriller but it goes right off the rails in the second half. It builds plenty of tension with words alone as a burnt out old DJ played by the perfectly cast Stephen McHattie with his deep, raspy voice talks to listeners about the frightening events occuring outside the station.
Then the movie takes a bizarre high concept turn that makes no sense with the zombie virus apparently being spread by the spoken word... Completely ridiculous I couldn't go with it all. What should have been a tight minimalist horror film that used suggestion rather than gore to create suspense just goes stupid. Disappointing..
