Review of Pontypool (2009) by Tomislav A — 11 Jan 2010
Mazzy in the morning. Stephen McHattie was excellent. His voice was absolutely perfect for this role. He was great as Hollis Mason but nobody really paid attention to him there (Watchmen), but in Pontypool he is all he needs to be: funny, arrogant, experienced and pleasant to watch.
This is really something new for me, this idea of a virus spread LIKE THAT and just as I thought everybody ran out of ideas something pleasantly surprises me.
The first half of the movie is actually very realistic and when odd informations start coming to the radio station it really becomes genuinely intense. Unfortunately the second part is a bit less scary but then we have more info on what's going on and the whole situation is fun to watch. At least it was for me.
This movie is certanly a different type of its genre, a fresh surprise in a sea of dumb modern so called horrors. I'm sure some will not like the simple setting of this movie and rather confusing virus that rages in a small town of Pontypool, but I have really really enjoyed this and you should give it a chance.
