Review of Pompeii (2014) by David F — 01 Dec 2014
Full of cliches of plot, character and sentiment, this film nevertheless moves along at a nice clip, maintaining the interest of the audience in a plot involving gladiators fighting for their freedom in the shadow of an erupting volcano or something.
There's quite a few reconstructions of ancient Roman life from the domestic sphere to the public markets and temples to provide a sense of place which is exotic but the heroes and villains are familiar and stock characters without much depth or personality.
With the right low expectations this can be enjoyable.
