Review of Pompeii (2014) by Albaab R — 06 Dec 2014
It is interesting to make a historical film about Pompeii, but Paul W.S Anderson's version of it is not the right one for it. The acting is all right, with Kiefer Sutherland being surprisingly bad, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje being the best actor in this.
The characters are very forgettable, I didn't even care for the love story, I just find them dull and was just basically waiting for the volcano to erupt. When it does erupt, it's really cool to see some destruction in this and left me entertained by it.
But even for those cool disaster scenes, it's not really enough for a cliché film. It reminded me so much of Gladiator, Titanic, and a bit of 2012. When it does fast cuts for the fight scenes, it's really hard to see what's going on.
The chemistry between Milo and Cassia was really bad and wasn't long enough for me to care about them. If you're not a fan of Paul W.S Anderson's films, Pompeii isn't going to change your opinion and just find it the same as his other films.
If you really want to see it, just watch the disaster scenes at the third act.
