Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Allan Hunter (1,486) for Daily Express (UK) (2,141) on 01 May 2014

If you thought the famous eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD matters because of the mass destruction and the tragic loss of thousands of lives…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By David Edwards (979) for Daily Mirror (UK) (1,133) on 01 May 2014

It's not just the ancient Roman city that gets burned to the ground here - careers are also convincingly incinerated by Paul WS Anderson's…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Alan Jones (357) for Radio Times (2,421) on 01 May 2014

Absolute nonsense, highly entertaining (on certain camp levels) - and never boring…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Brian Viner (589) for Daily Mail (UK) (1,461) on 01 May 2014

Browning, while indubitably beautiful, can't act very well. She sounds like a varsity netball player after a heavy defeat…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By David Sexton (322) for London Evening Standard (2,015) on 01 May 2014

It's all preposterously enjoyable, far more so than those impervious superheroes chucking each other about yet again…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Rich Cline (3,056) for Contactmusic.com (927) on 01 May 2014

Like an ancient Roman version of 2012, this disaster epic is a pure guilty pleasure, sparking plenty of laughter along with the massive effects-based…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Henry Fitzherbert (699) for Daily Express (UK) (2,141) on 30 Apr 2014

Lifts shamelessly from Gladiator and Titanic, yet without an ounce of conviction or genuine feeling, the picture is oddly bereft of suspense…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Stella Papamichael (611) for Digital Spy (1,161) on 29 Apr 2014

Apart from the half-baked script, Harington and Browning don't generate enough fire between them and after the curtain falls, the only question…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Ken Mcintyre (132) for Total Film (3,532) on 27 Apr 2014

While it offers spectacular CGI devastation and a chiselled hero, Pompeii is so soulless and empty that you won’t shed any tears when the…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Owen Williams (24) for Empire (3,446) on 27 Apr 2014

Over-reaching and unintentionally amusing, this is straight-to-video quality inexplicably delivered at blockbuster scale. A thunderous volca-NO…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Stefan Pape (613) for HeyUGuys (1,461) on 27 Apr 2014

Anderson's offering is never quite accessible or empathetic enough, and with a romance we struggle to believe in, it deems this particular…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Chris Fyvie (70) for The Skinny (809) on 27 Apr 2014

Bland set-pieces are accompanied by even blander exposition delivered by the blandest of performances until Vesuvius spills her guts…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Siobhan Synnot (412) for Scotsman (1,471) on 26 Apr 2014

Everyone should take cover from the eruption of clichés in Paul WS Anderson's new toga adventure…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Andy Lea (545) for Daily Star (403) on 26 Apr 2014

Anderson is one of the few film-makers who can justify the 3D surcharge for an eyepopping CGI spectacular like this…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Ali Gray (310) for TheShiznit.co.uk (506) on 22 Apr 2014

You'll see nothing Ridley Scott didn't do better a decade ago and nothing 300: Rise Of An Empire didn't do with more style six weeks ago…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Eddie Harrison (272) for The List (2,018) on 20 Apr 2014

Much like Anderson's The Three Musketeers, the details are highly dubious, but the effect is strangely pleasing in its daft, anything-goes…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Anthony Morris (102) for The Vine (179) on 26 Mar 2014

There's nothing meaningful or insightful going on here…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Jim Schembri (1,298) for 3AW (1,025) on 21 Mar 2014

When we walk in to see a film called Pompeii what we want is a staggering recreation of the colossal destruction wrought by the cataclysmic…

Review of Pompeii (2014)

By Paul Byrnes (441) for Sydney Morning Herald (1,256) on 21 Mar 2014

It's an average modern actioner: driven by technology, careless of the past, casually insulting to the audience, mindless in its violence…
