Review of Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) by Jason J — 09 Oct 2010
A year has passed since the dramatic events that took place in the Freeling's house . Just when things are settling down in their new home, the forces of evil come back with a vengeance and try once again to get young Carole Ann.
A worthy sequel but not half as good as the first which was superb. There's a new villain in form of Preacher Kane who's desperate to get his hands on Carole Ann. Great performances from the returning cast members and the newcomers. Once again Heather O'Rourke is superb. This movie has a darker and more sinister atmosphere than the original. Plenty of frightening moments and images. Awesome creature and visual effects. Provides a pretty interesting back-story on the spirits. Some cool set pieces, especially the one set in the garage. Unfortunately, though, it all ends in a somewhat underwhelming finale where the family enter some vortex or something. Overall, there's good stuff in this sequel but it's ultimately squandered on a rubbish ending.
