Review of Poltergeist (2015) by Antonio G — 16 Sep 2015
D+ This movie is yet another pointless remake just to sell money and ruin on what was so special and scary about the original Poltergeist by adding so much CGI and it get's distracting that the film is actually a horror film. Some positives is that the acting was ok by everyone and some scenes had their element of scary in it like a scene with shadows that felt creepy. But this film takes the practical effects and the creepy tension in the first film that replace them instead with a bunch of mediocre CGI that just destroys on what made the classic so great. I feel like the same thing happened to Jurassic World where instead we get this big CGI fest that was just made to make money and ruin the magic of what made the first one so great. The characters are boring and silly, most of the creepy scares are shown in the trailer and I feel like Hollywood should be remaking bad movies into good movies like Dredd. But instead we get the exact opposite of that having a remake used to make money and just make fans angry that this film destroys the classic on what made it so original because back in 1982, the plot was creepy, intense and everyone had their minds blown on how good it was. But in 2015, it's impossible to recreate that magic because those cliches have been used lot's of time in various other films including this one that just leaves me shocked that Poltergeist is getting a remake and from the trailer, I knew that this film is a cheap CGI, jump scare extravaganza leaving so many plot-holes behind and just makes me wonder if horror films can be original like back in the day.
Rating: 27% and a D+.
