Review of Poltergeist (2015) by Prentice S — 19 Sep 2015
"Poltergeist" is an example of the remake that isn't needed. Any movie can be remade (well, most movies can). "Poltergeist" could have very easily been remade, but there were so few differences between this one and the original, that is was almost pointless.
Movies like "Mad Max: Fury Road," which is both a reboot and a sequel, brought so much new to the table; "Poltergeist," in a lot of scenes, was more of a shot-for-shot remake, which is just plain boring.
None of the scares felt genuine, despite the earnestness that the kids brought to the script, but it just felt like a dull, family horror story, like the dreadful "Sinister" or "Insidious" franchises.
Chock this one up as another loss for the horror genre.
