Review of Police, Adjective (2010) by Daniel C — 06 Feb 2010
Quite possibly the single most truthful film about police work. Our protagonist spends so much time waiting and so much of our time is spent observing the daily grind of a police officer's day to day existence.
This film makes Zodiac feel like Raiders of the Lost Ark. The long takes are truly remarkable and the film begins to take on an absurdest tone at times. The mis-en-scene has an oppression that suits the hero's plight.
Some viewers will most likely die from boredom, but for film connoisseurs, this is a must-see. From the "marital bliss" to the police chief's dictionary-argument, there isn't a cliched moment.
It's politically acute, culturally specific and brilliantly honest. Clearly, Romania is at the forefront of world cinema these days.
