Review of Police, Adjective (2010) by Ola S — 05 Mar 2010
The Romanian film wonder goes on and Corneliu Poromboiu is a main part of it. He made "1208-East of Bukarest" in 2007. This is something completely different.
It's even hard to tell it's the same director. "1208" was a black comedy, which urgently told the audience to laugh during scenes there you usually don't laugh at all. This is all grey with Dragos Bucur as the young policeman Christo, who investigates a petty drug crime in long takes. They can easily go on for ten minutes. But you're anything but bored.
The documentary feeling is a perfect background to what becomes a discussion about morals and semantics. Few directors but Poromboiu can get away with it and still leave us with the feeling that we've really witnessed both drama and life at the same time.
Much of the real light in screen comes from Romania at the moment.
