Review of Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987) by Miranda P — 02 Dec 2008
The creative zenith of the series and an ascension to the comic sublime, like Keaton like Chaplin like Llloyd and like Lewis.
Several sequences exist as celebrations of motion itself: witness the exercise bicycle which, after breaking from its frame, the cyclist continues peddling with determination at the bottom of a swimming pool. Not to mention the sequences which showcase the then finest skateboarders in the world. The steady mainstreaming of the skateboarding trend was a IRL version of the films "dignity of errors" theme.
The climax has the wacky team pursuing the villains to an air show. The rising scales produce the expected sensory delirium and the final state of the sublime is reached as the heroes antics take literal flight.
