Review of Police Academy (1984) by K G — 13 Apr 2009
Police Academy deserves its place in the pantheon of 80's comedy classics simply for being the first film in a franchise that spawned several sequels. This does not however make it a good film. With raunchy, low brow humor galore and plenty of nudity for the kids, Police Academy succeeds at what it is trying to do, mainly being a gross out comedy.
Guttenberg is charming and likeable in the lead role and Bailey is excellent as his foil. Outside of that there are some funny moments but ultimately this film fails to provide enough to label it a classic comedy.
