Great beginning to a hit and miss franchise. interesting characters but a rather predictable conclusion leaves a bad taste. The best part of the film is the characters, they just have a blast in a film full of stunts and hilarious gags.
When the film industry was ballooning with these films, Police Academy was probably one of a few that attempted something different, moved away from the Teen raunchy comedy. Stripes is probably the true classic of the genre but this is a guilty film that deserves the franchise it delivered, the later films sadly were poorly developed.
You can see issues with rushed sequels and the Police Academy was one of the first key examples, having a rush preproduction resulted in below par films that killed the series, think Saw and Paranormal Activity for current examples.
This film has lived on since release and is very clever, when to be perfectly honest, it didn't need to be. 26/05/2018.
