Whilst confirming Kathryn Bigelow a director to watch, 'Point Break' became a cultural phenomenon. It teamed the dreamy good looks of the older heartthrob Patrick Swayze with the similarly pleasant features of the young Keanu Reeves, in what many consider to be his first film after adolescence.

Reaves in the rookie FBI agent recruited to infiltrate a gang of surfers suspected of breaking the law. Though it sounds routine, this film is anything but and there are plenty of surprises in store for the audience.

The action sequences are conducted with a style and panache which has since become Bigelow' signature, experimenting with depths of focus and the innovation of the panning create new experiences for the audience.

An admittedly macho tale of loyalty, crime and friendship and the film for which Kathryn Bigelow was best known (that should change with Hurt Locker). Point Break was one of the rare films which created pin-ups while delivering on screen in the right way.

Special mention to Gary Busey who is always good value for money given the right tools.
