Review of Point Break (1991) by Lyndon G — 30 Dec 2009
Kind of like 'Speed,' it succeeds miraculously in spite of a script that's wall-to-wall cliche. I quickly lost track of whether I was laughing with the film or at it, but I was having a great time either way.
At least now I know where Keanu Reeves got his unshakable reputation as a wooden actor, but that's just part of the fun. The dialogue may be awful, but it goes directly for the guilty pleasure centre, and I can't say I wasn't loving every line.
Let it be known that Kathryn Bigelow is one of the most consistently excellent action directors ever. One thing though: It's customary when doing day-for-night shots to avoid getting the ever-loving SUN in the frame.
