Review of Point Blank (2010) by Diogo S — 30 Nov 2011
Another excellently paced thriller from director Fred Cavaye where the action starts the minute the film begins to roll and does not stop until the closing titles!
Centre stage is the unwitting everyman hero Samuel whose life rapidly spirals out of control. Events conspire to place him in a number of extreme situations outside the harmony of his normal life. He finds himself forced to make choices that will test his own and the audiences sense of morality.
Samuel's character is believable as his fallibility's are exposed as he struggles through each test. This is where the film works best forcing you to ask yourself could I really do that?
It has all the hallmarks of a Hitchcock thriller the everyman hero, the unfortunate turn off events, the race against the clock and the unforeseeable twists and turns with a heavy emphasis on situation rather than character.
All skill-fully put together into a tight 84mins whose pace leaves behind any shortcomings the film might have. So breakout the popcorn and get ready for some Gaelic action like you have not seen since Luc Besson in his prime.
