Review of Point Blank (1967) by Ross B — 28 Jul 2012
John Boorman's classic, based on Donald E. Westlake's novel, shows Lee Marvin at his best. Marvin stars as Walker, a man who is double crossed by his partner Reese (John Vernon) when they try to steal some money.
Reese takes Walker's wife and becomes a big shot in a crime organization. Walker though turns out not to be dead and wants the $93,000 he is owed. If that means killing everyone in the organization, then he will.
Marvin is cold as ice and it is fun to see him seek the vengeance he so deserves. The film moves at a quick pace and the use of Alcatraz as the drop off point is great. It can get a bit trippy at points as it can jump between his memories and what is currently happening.
In the end, it is a classic film that shows a classic Hollywood tough guy at his best.
