Review of Plunkett & Macleane (1999) by M M B — 09 Nov 2008
Mostly surface and style, the film fails to rise beyond archetypes as opposed to real characters (although Robert Carlyle can always be counted upon to give a beating heart to any character he plays; and Alan Cummins shines as the oh-so-campy fop, Lord Rochester) .
When the mood strikes me, though, I do like the characters and the film's undeniable sense of anachronistic imagery. A very MTV/90s movie.
