Review of Ploning (2008) by Janice P — 04 Jan 2009
This would have been a potentially great story, if only the elements were tied coherently together. First up, there's a lot of loose ends that never get resolved in the end, and I was left to scratch my head wondering what really happened.
Second, too much of the turning points are done so choppily, and there was just way too much exposition on what was behind Ploning's secrets. But what really killed it for me was the way the climactic reveal was done, it was just too blunt and dry.
What a waste as I really thought the setting was so beautiful and truly Filipino. But I have to say I was impressed that the dialogue used was the one they really spoke in Cuyo. But yeah, all in all, I was really unimpressed with this :(.
