Review of Please Give (2010) by Alejandro M — 24 Aug 2010
A quiet little drama on what one does to give back in a world that focuses on taking what you can while you can. Keener is one of today's finest actresses, so I relish any opportunity I get to see her on the screen. Platt usually know just how to make me laugh while still creating a real character, and that is no different here. Rebecca Hall is fine in a somewhat underwritten role, and Amanda Peet is surprisingly good as a mean, selfish bitch. Overall, what struck me the most was how real these characters feel. I know people like these characters, the good and the bad.
While the ending is a bit unconvincingly happy, Please Give is a compelling and funny look at charity and kindness in today's society.
