Review of Please Give (2010) by Nick D — 17 Dec 2010
As usual, Keener kills as an insecure people-pleasing Manhattanite, mother of a neurotic chubb of a teenager, wife to a sloppy philandering Oliver Platt, and addicted to giving large sums to drag queens and bums on the street & feeling guilty that she makes a profit buying and selling mid-century modern furniture.
She is Woody Allen with female parts. They even live in the same neighborhoods, movie-wise. I love the shambling episodic bounceabout as the story toodles towards a kind of crazy stasis. Other standout is Amanda Peek as a hard, lonely, self-involved neighbor who looks great and knows it, even though it doesn't make her happy.
