Review of Please Give (2010) by Kelly Q — 18 Jan 2011
If at time a little too self-consiously indie at times, at least this movie isn't set in Brooklyn. Several things charm - it's Woody Allenesque in its one liners although less histrionic and more morose, with female characters dominating.
Especially impressive is Rebecca Hall as a mammogram technician and Sarah Steele as a teenager not scared to show off her pimples. Indeed, one of the film's strengths is it's refusal to employ conventionally good looking characters - Oliver Platt is something of a tub of lard but still manages to gratify his desires.
