Review of Please Give (2010) by John S — 04 Mar 2011
Nice film this one. Nothing special or spectacular, in fact just a small window into urban life in 2009, a slice into a few different people's world and their interactions and reactions to various things.
Catherine Keeler is great as Kate, a middle aged mum who finds herself becoming guilty at making money from people, like when she picks up a fine table from a son of a dead woman and then manages to sell it for $5000.
Fine performances throughout, and a good plot means I really enjoyed this film. It was also a pleasingly short 90 minutes so I didnt fall asleep while watching it, which was nice.
There seem to be more and more films out there like this which are stories about nothing really. Sure enough some things do happen in this film like the old lady dying and so on but theres no Grand Twist or Big Event. It feels like a window into their lives and thats it really. I like that though. I think its nice.
