Review of Please Give (2010) by Mark F — 07 Nov 2011
First, let me say I thoroughly enjoyed this film and recommend it. Just don't go in looking for a typical payoff, as you would have in a romcom, action adventure, or crime thriller.
Like a Woody Allen film, the story revolves around manhattanites, 5 neurotic women and Oliver Platt, in cramped apartment dwellings trying not to annoy the hell of each other, but failing. There is so much baggage explored that the TSA might have to get involved.
I can just imagine how this screenplay was written. She kept a journal of peccadilloes and portfolio of brutally honest words polite people don't say with company...and crammed them all into this movie. It never got unbearable though because there actually is a plot and character development. It's not pure neuroticism.
