Review of Pleasantville (1998) by John R — 30 Jan 2009
It sounds like such a throwaway concept that could have turned out juvenile, but thankfully, it doesn't. It's ingeniously smart, tackling the issue of change and our willing to accept the changes that happen as time moves on.
Even more so, it affirms the present time we live in isn't as bad as we may think, realizing that we currently live in an era where our freedom is more satisfying than the unchallenged period where everything is perfect and the unspeakable is gracefully ignored.
There is so much heart and meaning throughout the movie, and it does not disappoint a single bit. One of the best movies of the 90s, and sorely underrated.
