Review of Pleasantville (1998) by Courtney B — 28 Oct 2010
Ok, so I'm a sucker for a feel-good movie, but this one is special. The premise is that a brother and sister in a broken family are 'teleported' into an old black and white sit com world. There actions once there, especially as they find their true selves causes serious repercussions for the 'cast'.
There is a serious sub-text about fearing or oppressing those that do not conform, but it is handled in a light fashion. Clever use of colour and great performances by the leads especially Joan Allen.
