Review of Pleasantville (1998) by Gleb I — 22 Apr 2011
This film is one of the most original, one of the most moving, one of the most thought provoking films that I have seen in a long, long time.
I can't go any further without giving the film's incredible visuals a standing ovation. I loved the visuals in this film. Over and over again I found myself scratching my head over how they did this, when I finally stopped wondering, and sat back and allowed myself to be immersed by this magical world.
The writing is some of the best I've seen to. With clever dialogue, some deep hidden messages and a great original concept that I couldn't help but love this movie. Sure this type of film has been done, but here the filmmakers put a twist on it, and it became original in its own right.
The acting is also very good. Nothing spectacular but it is great. The actors from the town of Pleasantville do an especially great job, as they have to be conveying tons of emotions, sometimes having to convey more than one emotion at once, and they hit it right on the head.
This coming of age story about what happens when chaos meets control is entertaining, and a well thought out masterpiece.
