Review of Pleasantville (1998) by Alvin Y — 27 Jun 2013

At first viewing I thought this is about two people trapped inside a black & white TV show and must figure how to be out of there, but then after another viewing, it felt so much about how people deal the society in such continuous way like living in color and seeing things that most people never seen before.

I think Maguire and Witherspoon's chemistry is terrific as siblings, but as soon we grow on them, they deserve a world full of happiness and yes, color! I also realize and found out that it's the same director of The Hunger Games, in here, the director changes the tone of the movie to be satirical and yet convincing.

This is one of the best of the 90's, the way it tells us a story so vivid and challenging that we might think of it as a cartoon, but no, it's just plain smart, intelligent, and inspiring as well.
