Pleasantville Movie review.

I think Pleasantville was a good adaption of the story of Adam and Eve. Like in Adam and Eve the girl took the apple first and took a bite of the apple first. Adam then took a bite of the apple after. With the black and white, the director completely captured the essence of Pleasantville: simple and boring. I like how the repair man played the role of God in this. Sometimes change is good and sometimes it’s not.

Like how I mentioned the repair man represented God, I kind of got offended by this. I’m a strong Christian and they portray him as mad. He is not a mad GOD. This might offend some people by me saying this. Other would argue he seems harsh and unjust. But I believe he is a loving and generous God. People can very much enjoy this movie even though it kind of warps the original story. But before we get into religion, I enjoyed how each character gained color after they found their calling. Bud gained color after he helped his mother from those bad boys. I believe he traveled through a portal to NYC and became Spider-Man.

The direction in this movie was just spot on. The allusion to Adam and Eve was genius. The writer, director, and actors probably took a long time to prepare for this. It was truly a smart film. Reese Witherspoon and Tobey Maguire give performances that steal the show.

The characteristics of Adam in Pleasantville were pretty much similar to the story of Adam and Eve because Bud wanted to play by the rules all the time but then fell eventually. Jennifer was kind of the rebel but towards the end of the film, she discovered that’s what she doesn’t want to do that for her whole life. The mom of Bud was also a very deep character. She displayed characteristics of pain, grief, change, and power.

In conclusion, Pleasantville was a great movie and okay adaption of the story of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve was a great story of creation. Pleasantville was a great film and it really spoke to me.
