Review of Play Misty for Me (1971) by Clive R — 15 May 2010
Good first directing effort for Clint -- in fact, for the most part you'd swear he'd been doing it for years. The jazz festival interlude is unnecessarily long and an unwelcome interruption to the narrative (not that the music's bad), but otherwise there's little to fault.
Clint's great as a non-combatant (though still dry-humoured and squinty) radio DJ. Jessica Walter plays both demure and psychotic with an equally high degree of skill, and Donna Mills is fine (though the mullet is not to my taste).
I like the seaside setting. I like the cars. I like some of the music. And I like the movie.
