Clint begins his career at the helm with an investigation into the anxiety at the root of his trademark persona, using technique ranging from verite and Gothic while developing his signature chiaroscuro.
The movie's interest is held, though, not so much by Eastwood, in front of or behind the camera, but by Jessica Walter's brilliantly focused performance.
