Review of Play Misty for Me (1971) by Sean C — 31 Jul 2012
Play Misty For Me may seem dated by today's standards, but the obsessed stalker tale remains effective. Apparently Eastwood said that he had something similar happen to him when asked about where the idea for this story came from.
Jessica Walter is quite cute, yet dangerously twisted as Evelyn Draper, a "#1 fan" of Dave Garver's (Eastwood) nighttime radio show. She becomes more and more fanatical about the deejay as the film progresses to the point of high danger. Clint is good as the hip and loose music man with some humorous and entertaining supporting portrayals from James McEachin and Clarice Taylor. Music score is very loosey goosey and influenced by the jazzy Monterey pop sounds of the era(1971). I love it! Some beauty cinematography of the Carmel coastline too. A good film and a slice of early 70's style. Just don't be judging it by the standards of todays films...
