Review of Play Misty for Me (1971) by Edgar C — 02 Jun 2013
After seeing the madness and the accurate portrayal of obsessive fanatism of the gorgeously provocative Jessica Walter, it is impossible to refuse the opportunity to belong to the "In your face, Fatal Attraction!" club. I proudly belong to the club. This is exactly the Clint Eastwood that modern followers miss. The pace of this modest little flick uses astonishing cinematography to compensate the "amateurish" feeling of the film, and it is constantly changing the atmosphere from a romantic to a macabre one. Each time Walter asks for the song Misty, the suspense is increased, just to be randomly switched off with the beautiful scenery that accompanied "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face". Surprisingly good thriller, and a classy soundtrack!
77/100.
