Review of Play Misty for Me (1971) by Blind P — 28 Apr 2005
Hahahahahaha! That's how I ended watching the Eastwood directorial and starring edition of "Play Misty For Me", a story about a DJ who is stalked by a crazy chick that just can't dig when enough is enough.
At first, the modern viewer is left to wonder what is so fantastic about the womanizing, drunk driving Eastwood, even though the movie is obviously sympathetic towards him.
He has a fan that keep calling to request to the same song, and she ends up showing up at the bar he plugs with a skirt and "fuck me" boots that draw his interest.
Now, it should be obvious that you should never stick your dick in a fan, but Clint is too much libido to care, and they have a stand.
Poor him to find that she wants more, and the degeneration of her charactre begins to the point where nobody can eventually question that she is the psycho they meant to portray.
It's hilarious to watch the stages go by.
Now, on to the climax, where the evil woman has Clint's real love in bondage at the isolated beach house, and he arrives in a rush, only to find the body of the helpful cop who has been stabbed to death with scissors. (HA! As if ANYBODY could have the strength to drive them in like it was portrayed...heh).
Moving on, it's all dark in the house, and our psycho bitch, complete with clacking heels, manages to appear in and out of the darkness with a slashing knife to hit on Clint again and again...hmmm...you would think the sound of those high heels would give ya a clue where she was. heh heh.
Anyway, and this is the BACKBREAKING FUNNY PART, he ends up in the living room where she starts slahsing at him again, and he hauls off and gives her a power punch on the kisser. It drives her through the balcony window and we are treated to her rag doll body falling and bouncing down the cliff.
I LAUGHED MY ASS OFF! Fuck, it was funny. Or maybe I was just awake too long. heh heh.
So, if you ever were wondering when it was OK to total some chick with your best punch, this film will tell you.
Curious, but the film "The Joker Is Wild!" is not in the RT datbase. Starring Frank Sinatra, it a character study of Joe E. Lewis, who was a singer turned comedian after a mob hit slashed his vocal cords. Hampered by alcoholism, he hits the top and goes to the bottom, only to be confronted at the end with ghostly images in storefront windows giving him "what for?" It was entertaining and the love affairs were typically 50's, but driven by dialogue, which I find much more appealing than the modern format. 6/10.
