Review of Play It Again, Sam (1972) by Olivia W — 30 Mar 2008
Woody didn't direct this movie, but you wouldn't know it if it weren't for the credits. Everyone idolizes the image of Bogart, especially people who will never live up to his high standard, and this movie hits that directly.
This is much more like early Woody than 'Annie Hall'/'Manhattan Woody', he's still flexing his slapstick muscles, but the high-brow cultural references, film fantasy-worship and neurotic protagonist shine though regardless.
Great fun, especially if you love Casablanca.
