Review of Play It Again, Sam (1972) by Xgary X — 18 Mar 2012
Great comedy-drama. A typical Woody Allen movie, except that it is not directed by Woody Allen (he did write the screenplay, and stars in it. Two outta three ain't bad!). Like most of Woody Allen's early movies, plot is fairly basic. However, like all of Woody Allen's movies, it is the dialogue that makes the movie. Sharp, witty, all with the signature Woody Allen self-deprecation and neurosis.
Acting-wise, Woody Allen does what he does best - play himself. Diane Keaton is great too.
This was Allen and Keaton's first movie together and the chemistry was clearly there. Five years' later they would star together in one of the greatest movies of all time, Annie Hall.
