Review of Platoon (1986) by Jeff D — 29 Dec 2011
This movie gives a great example of what happened to soldiers in Vietnam if they got to "into" everything that twas going on. It mixes realism and anti-war elements. It is somewhat anti-american but that has to go along with the realism and anything Oliver Stone does is like this.
Plus you have great performances by a young 20 year old Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe have very deserving oscar nominations. To give you a little preview of what happens Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen) arrives in Vietnam and meets Sergeant Barnes (Berenger) and Sergeant Elias (Dafoe) he sees both as role models but one is mean heartless psychopathic killer and the other a nice sane bright leader.
Taylor soon realizes the horrors of war and has choose between which leader he wants to follow. PS this movie also has better action than some vietnam movies because the fighting actually takes place in the jungle instead of urban combat like some other movies.
