Review of Platoon (1986) by Jared C — 28 Mar 2012
The finest war film I've seen told about the Vietnam war. So realistically and bitterly displayed as any war film can be shown by Oliver Stone a man who has been in duty back in those days to know the hell experienced in those days the pain each man has felt in this war.
Charlie Sheen not been dope in this film gives a real human feeling to his role as newcomer Taylor who arrives not knowing the sinister and evil world he is been brought into, while though he has co stars like Whitaker, Dillon, Scrub's McGinley and even Johnny Depp in the film.
It's Tom Berenger as Sgt. Barnes the ruthless and heartless man who has experienced the worst parts of hell and Willem Dafoe as Sgt. Elias as the tough, courageous and calm soldier who no longer believes that the Americans will win this war.
These two are the actors that steal the film and give OSCAR worthy performances. Lots of firepower, explosions, brilliant lighting, war cries, cuts and guts this is Vietnam as if it was been born again.
And deep down in the center of this story you find nothing about good guys fighting bad guys or bad guys fighting good guys. But each man fighting their own inner demons experiencing their own personal hell through their eyes and seen the suffering they endured until their last dying breath.
THE FIRST CASUALTY OF WAR IS INNOCENCE.
