Review of Platoon (1986) by Aaron T — 26 Jun 2012
Oliver Stone's defining moment in cinema may well be my favourit Vietnam film. Not only is Charlie Sheen on the kind of form that gives his own fathers performance in Apocalypse Now a runs for its money but Dafoe and Berenger are captivating as the two men fighting for his soul.
There is more realism in Stone's depiction of Vietnam than in Coppola's or even Michael Cimino's and that helps make Platoon one of the most unflinching mainstream titles of its time.
