Review of Planet Terror (2007) by Zulhilmi Z — 25 Apr 2010
Now this is a fun movie. Gory, dumb, at times offensive but a lot of fun. This is a movie that knows that it's cheesy and it embraces its cheesyness. Out of the Grindhouse double-feature, Planet Terror is the better one.
Robert Rodriguez knows how to please his bloodthirsty crowd by showing every little gory details of this superb hommage to 70s and 80s exploitation flicks. If you liked Bad Taste and Braindead you're also going to like this movie.
The all-star cast, Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Josh Brolin, Marley Shelton, Bruce Willis and the list goes on, seem to have a fun time at reciting those B-movies dialogues, it does only good for the movie.
The directing is slick, the soundtrack is very John Carpenter-ish, overall Planet Terror is a bloody good time, but not for the faint of heart.
