Review of Planet Terror (2007) by Ken C — 11 Nov 2010
I was expecting a lot more from this film. Granted it does do a good job at making it like an old Grindhouse movie from the 70's, but that's actually one of the main problems that I had with this film it tries too hard in making it like an old campy 70's horror flick.
For example in the middle of the sex scene between the two leads the movie breaks and then after it gives us the "sorry for the inconvenience" sign all this shit happens in the movie that we didn't even see and all the characters have different feelings for each other all of a sudden.
I also wasn't a huge fan of the acting and I know that it's supposed to be campy but I think that the girl playing Cherry just overdid her performance just waaaaay too much up to the point where I couldn't even like her.
Bruce Willis and Josh Brolin are awesome in it however, then again when aren't they (except for Jonah Hex)? I also really liked how Robert Rodriguez just went all out with the gore, whenever someone drules or bleeds or pops a zit the saliva, blood, and puss just explodes all over the place.
And probably one of my favorite scenes is when on of the soldiers is about to have his way with the girl but then the virus starts to get to him and his balls start to melt off GOD! So yeah stuff like that make the movie entertaining but I was expecting so much more, but then again it's a Robert Rodriguez movie so I can't really complain all that much.
Lets just hope I don't feel the same way about Death Proof.
