Review of Planet Terror (2007) by Alex R — 31 Jul 2011
I think I can only describe Planet Terror as too much of a good thing. At some point in this movie, gushing blood and one liners ceases to have the affect it so righteously deserves. Not to say that the ride up until that point is the most mindless fun you'll have watching a movie in a long time.
B-movie aficionados rejoice, as this is the finest film the genre has to offer, and comes in at a close second to what I believe to be Rodriguez's finest film: Sin City. Fun, sexy, exciting, and just plain disgusting at times.
Planet Terror lays the hammer down as hard as it'll hit. So I see no wrong doing in claiming that this is the better half of the Grindhouse double feature, but to say that these two films are not the same would be an understatement.
They can hardly even be compared even though side-by-awesome-side, these two films deliver on totally different levels. And even though I give this movie the higher rating for it's own achievements as a B-movie, I can easily say that Death Proof for me was the better, and most enjoyable of the two.
