Review of Planet Terror (2007) by Dann M — 15 Feb 2013
From writer/director Robert Rodriguez comes the Grindhouse exploitation film Planet Terror. In this apocalyptic thriller a military experiment releases a zombie virus in a small town, forcing a rag-tag group of survivors to band together in order to escape.
Rodriguez does a brilliant job homaging the exploitation film style and at delivering over-the-top action sequences. The cast is equally impressive, featuring Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Michael Biehn, and Bruce Willis.
Still, the explicit gore becomes a bit much, and this extended cut isn't paced as well as the Grindhouse theatrical version. While it has some issues, Planet Terror is a creative and brilliant throwback to a bygone era of filmmaking.
