Review of Planet Terror (2007) by Michelle H — 05 Jun 2014
Robert Rodriguez is an acquired taste that is for sure! Still, if you can stomach all of the gore in this, it is an awesome, action packed, and very funny zombie movie that totally pays tribute to the cheaply made grindhouse horror films of the past.
Rose Mcgowan is amazing as the beautiful and tough stripper Cherry Darling. Freddy Rodriguiez is an unconventional gun toting bad-ass. Jeff Fahey owns the screen as barbecue pit owner Jay T, he is my favorite character in the story, very funny and over the top with his sleeves rolled up, his rats nest hair and raunchy southern charm.
All the characters end up meeting at his Bone Pit restaurant to take a stand against the zombie mutants threatening to take over the world. The film is shot in traditional gindhouse style, with lots of scratches.
degraded film stock and even some missing reels! The gore is plentiful and totally over the top! Cherry kicks ass with her machine gun leg. There are lots of unforgettable one-liners and jokes that are in very bad taste! In no way does the film make any attempt to be serious.
It is a crazy, fun ride that is all the better when seen with a large audience! Planet Terror is not for everyone, but it is a true work of art from Robert Rodriguez that will stand the test of time as a cult classic.
What a blast!
