Review of Planet Hulk (2010) by Jason B — 23 Feb 2010
Planet Hulk starts out with Hulk captured and on a space ship. A recording of Iron Man begins playing letting us know that the heroes of Earth have decided that Hulk is too much of a threat to the planet and as such have essentially banished him to an unpopulated world where he can't hurt anyone. Of course, everything doesn't go as planned or else it would be a very dull story.
From there on we are taken on a ride that is not only filled with the action we've come to expect from Hulk but also touches a lot more on his character emotionaly than we are used to until he ultimately, saves the day.
Upon seeing the announcement for this movie I wasn't very happy. Hulk is not one of my favorites and over the last few years they have been beating him down our throats (Hulk, The Incredible Hulk, Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2 which focus on him a ton, Next Avengers where he saves the day, Hulk vs) and I've been getting annoyed by it.
However, after watching Planet Hulk, I am so glad they made it. The animation was well done, the voice acting excellent and a story line that actually gives personality and purpose to Hulk. Simply put, Planet Hulk puts all other hulk movies (live and animated) to shame. Well done Marvel/Lionsgate...keep them coming!
P.S. While it may be animated make no mistake...this definitely is not a kid's movie.
