Review of Planet Hulk (2010) by Markus S — 23 Mar 2012
I had read the storyline in the comics where The Hulk comes back to Earth to get some revenge and fuck some shit up in the process for the other superheroes. Well, fuck every possible shit up actually, but anyway. That is one of the better story arcs for me, so I was pretty psyched to see how it all started.
First of all, now THIS is the way to portray The Hulk. He has never been as badass as in here. One must understand that he doesn't merely have the power to whisk some tanks around like in the movies, the bastard has nigh limitless power, as he gets angrier and angrier. As in, his strength cap has never even been measured precisely. In this film it shows, and it's awesome.
I was mucho pleasantly surprised how gritty this movie actually is. There is blood flying all over the place, people/things get killed left and right, and they even incinerate a child. In an animation. That's harsh man, but insanely cool. On top of that, the story feels epic as shit and the music greatly enhanced that feeling. The fights are also very well shot, and there is even actual choreography involved, which I appreciated. The quality of the animation itself could be better, but that is a minor issue if everything else works this well.
I had a blast with this one, and I would have easily watched an hour or so more, as the end seemed to come very quickly. Finally, I want to mention that Caeira is one of the coolest female characters in anything, ever, which had nothing to do with the fact that she runs around with a dual-sword stick-thingy destroying everything in her path. No sirree!
Maybe Marvel should only make animation movies. No? Just a thought.
