Review of Planet 51 (2009) by Movie K — 25 May 2012

I'm disappointed with this animation. Nothing special, captivating. An UFO attack the planet and the army loses. The victims here are alien (although they are the normal ones on the planet) and then it turns out to be a movie screening.

Lem (Justin Long) love universe and his science talk is boring the kids, until his friend Skiff (Seann William Scott) insert aliens attacking their planet. The kids got excited. Lem manage to get the job working there.

His neighbor Eckle is a boy who love alien invasion and comics. Lem like his sister Neera and go over, wanting to tell the good news. But a hippe dude Glar ask her to go on a protest, interrupted Lem.

The radar detected UFO. A rover bot breaks free from the security base to track it. When the spaceship landed, out come the human astronaut Chuck Baker (The Rock) who is shock when he saw the family out in the yard BBQ.

Eckle ask for his autograph and Chuck run off. The army led by General Grawl (Gary Oldman) is on the hunt for him and rover. Chuck is hiding in the workplace of Justin and they saw each other. Chuck is surprise he can breathe and speak same language.

He ant Lem to help him return to the spaceship. But the army have cordon it. Lem hide Chuck at home. Rover goes around collecting rock samples. A professor Kipple (John Cleese) advice the general that the alien can turn people into zombies.

Rover found Chuck at home. Skiff and Eckle also came and saw Chuck. 2 soldiers barge in and Chuck pretend to brainwash them to obey. General track them down and the gang have escaped to the comic store Skiff work at.

Kipple see the chocolate wrapper and says it is a note to warn surrender. Neera don't like Lem for saying aliens are bad. A TV crew saw Chuck role playing, doing sci-fi movie lines about killing them with Eckle and others and show live on TV.

The army track them down and corner Lem and Chuck. Rover save them and was caught. The ship is taken away to a secret base. Chuck tell Lem about the universe and he realise his knowledge are all wrong.

Lem find a way to go out, by dressing as alien for the sci-fi movie premiere. They were pick as best dress. Rover escape and the army follow it, knowing it will lead to Chuck. The army caught them and Kipple want to take out Chuck brain for experiment.

Lem is going to get it too when Kipple say he is zombie for protecting Chuck. So he quickly pretend to free Lem and save him. Lem decided to save his new friend and Neera plus everyone else joins him.

Rover breaks free again and lead the gang to the location. During interrogation, General says all the soldiers have their own target to shoot in case anyone got brainwash by Chuck. Then the bozos got confuse and start shooting.

When Kipple is about to cut the brain, Rover stops him. They free him and found the ship. It is rig with explosive. Lem goes up to the General and press the destruct button. A slab fall onto General, trapping him.

Everyone board the ship and Chuck rescue him. When Lem see the Earth from space he is in awe. Neera and Lem kissed. Safely landed, General thanks Chuck. Rover stay with Skiff and Chuck return. The 2 soldiers who had their brains operated saw Kipple and decide to do operation on him too.
