Review of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) by Garrett W — 06 Jan 2014
This is what comedy should be. Sharp dialogue and excellent chemistry between the superbly-cast Steve Martin and John Candy as two travellers thrown together by circumstance when their plane is snowed in as they try to get home for Thanksgiving.
It's a road trip movie, a buddy comedy, and a culture clash (white collar vs. blue) all thrown into a single plot. Although some arguments between Martin and Candy and their mishaps verge on going over the top, they always manage to rein it back in (particularly Candy) to someplace where we can relate to these characters.
