Review of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) by Mikey H — 06 Nov 2010
I loved John Hughes and John Candy. I love Steve Martin. So why did it take me only tonight for me to finally see Planes, Trains, and Automobiles? I'm not sure, maybe because back in 1987, this kind of movie didn't appeal to a nine year old kid? I've heard such great things about this movie, and now I know why after finally getting the chance to see it.
Steve Martin and John Candy were a great comedic duo, and there was also some heartfelt moments as well. I never realized how much material was stolen and used in Dumb And Dumber and Tommy Boy!!! This movie is worthy of it's praise, and I'm sure that it would be one of my favorite movies ever had I watched it over and over on HBO in the late 80's and early 90's when my mind wasn't oversaturated with things to watch.
Unfortunately, with so much to read, listen to, and watch, I doubt I'll ever watch this movie again to catch new things and enjoy over and over like other John Hughes movies of my youth. Highly recommended! A.
