Honestly, if the Academy rewarded gifted moments of screen comedy, surely both Steve Martin and John Candy would've deserved accolades for this film. It is one of the best comedies of all time as far as I'm concerned and may well be Candy's finest on-screen performance (Martin's probably The Jerk).
As far as the canon of John Hughes is concerned this is the most adult orientated and my personal favourite and I rented it a million times as a child. It also contains my favourite scene of all time.
Re-watched again 8/13 and it is still my favourite film of all time. Hands down, a classic.
